Emotional Ties

Emotional Ties

If emotions connecting us to the past were simple ties they'd be neat colored bows sitting atop our personal Pandora's box. They're not. Especially for those of us who are heavy INFP (Myers-Briggs personality test, I recommend you look it up). Those of us who free-float in our right hemisphere every waking hour easily get caught up in emotional ties to the past. Our ties are railroad ties, heavy and saturated with sticky sap we loosely carry on our backs. Strapless, we struggle to keep them balanced.

Balance. There is none in the creative mind of an INFP. Daily fights against logic are commonplace. Soon as one sees there is order, we want to flee. A friend of mine once told me to be mindful of living on the right side. There is nothing concrete on the right side. Nowhere to place your feet, to ground yourself.

Grounding takes considerable effort. Today I don't feel like making the effort. Today I will write. Today I will sit and stare at a slide (I must get it digitized and posted) I took at UC-Davis of my friends Kim, Paul and Julie at a party. Kim is out of focus. Paul has his eyes closed as he laughs. Julie, the most beautiful woman I have ever known inside and out, is staring at me. Today I live in 1989. Happily.
